Stories about ChristCare Group Ministry in Action

WILMCCG ("Why I Love
My ChristCare Group")

Note: The following testimony was shared by a ChristCare Group member during her congregation's worship services to encourage even more people to join ChristCare Groups.

Since I graduated from high school and left my hometown, I have lived in ten cities and six states. I have moved places when I was single. I have moved places as a mom. But my latest move is the first time I have ever moved anywhere as a single mom. It was pretty overwhelming to say the least. New town, new job, new church, new neighbors, new life. Whew.

I've made more decisions in the last year than I ever dreamed I'd make in such a short period of time, but one of the best decisions I've made was to join a ChristCare Group.

What has it done for me? It gives me someone to sit by on Sunday morning, somebody else to wave at across the sanctuary. It gives me e-mail messages on my computer checking to see how my eye surgery went. It puts messages on my answering machine saying someone noticed I hadn't been to church the last couple of weeks and wondering if things were ok. People ask about my daughters and call them by name, remembering what I said about them at our last meeting. My ChristCare Group knows me personally.

My time is pretty stretched by working and being a single mom, but ChristCare doesn't take that much of my time. Twice a month on Monday evenings, our group meets, reads and studies the Bible together, prays together, and shares a great fellowship. We have a pretty wide age span, a variety of backgrounds and interests. The one thing we all share in common is a desire to know God better and to live our lives in such a way as to honor Him.

My ChristCare Group has done much more for me than I have done for them, purely by their unconditional acceptance and support. They have helped me have a greater sense of belonging, which is so important to me at this time in my life. They don't always know what I'm going through, but they know I'm going through it, and they're there to buck me up, to pat me on the back, to give me faith in myself. In the years ahead, I hope I can provide something meaningful to them, too.

ChristCare Groups mean different things to different people, but for me, someone who is fairly new to the congregation and community, just a few hours a month has been an investment well worth its while. I urge you to consider it, no matter how long you've been in the church. Discover the unique things ChristCare can do for you, and what you can give to others. Remember, it's just a few hours a month.
