Interns at Stephen Ministries St. Louis have the perfect opportunity to develop their talents and gain valuable experience. "I'm grateful for the experience of working in a well-run business. Trying out so many different functions of this business has taught me a ton about myself, my strengths and weaknesses, and what I want to look for in a job in the future. I had never worked in an office before, so I'm really glad I did this internship--it has taught me more about the work world than any of my business classes could!''
Stephen Ministries provides a well-rounded internship--interns focus in one area while also sampling a wide variety of work experiences. "I learned so much about the inner workings of a non-profit organization by having the chance to work in several different departments."
At Stephen Ministries, interns get a chance to do real, meaningful work that goes far beyond fetching coffee. "I really liked the fact that I got legitimate hands-on experience. You do real work that contributes to the company, and you learn a lot in the process."

As a Writing-Plus! intern Beth primarily worked on writing and editing tasks, taking on such diverse responsibilities as proofreading Dr. Haugk's newest book, writing articles on Journeying through Grief and other resources, and researching a video project. "I've been considering a career in writing or editing, and this is a good environment for me to explore those possibilities," she said.
Internships at Stephen Ministries are rewarding. Interns are given real projects and responsibility. "Stephen Ministries offers what I've always wanted in a job," Chris said. "When I got here, I thought, 'There really is a place that provided what I hoped for in an internship! You're not just getting coffee--they thoroughly train you and give you actual work. I'm going to recommend it to other business majors at Concordia!"
As an intern at Stephen Ministries you will be a part of our family and experience a culture of caring. Katy said, "The Writing-Plus! Internship, which I found out about from my school's Communication Department, sounded like a great chance to put my writing skills to use in a religious organization. I love the atmosphere here," she said. "There's a real ethos of service--people are always willing to help each other out."
Lauren eagerly recommends the experience to others, feeling that many could benefit from the exposure to the working world that this internship provides. "People with a positive attitude and willingness to work hard will get a lot out of it," she said. "The people I've been working with are extremely nice. It's been a pleasant experience and a great fit for me."
When Lauren, a linguistics major at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, found out about Stephen Ministries, the idea of an internship here immediately appealed to her. She said, "I was drawn to it first and foremost because it was nonprofit. Plus it's Christian, so everything here is part of a bigger mission."
While applying for the internship, Megan quickly learned that Stephen Ministries was no ordinary organization. "I remember that at one point in the interview, Dr. Haugk asked me, 'Are you a nice person?'" she said. "That's neat. It really lets you know what's important to the organization. It's great that I'm doing something that has meaning. I really like that it's focused on ministry and helping people."
When Erica arrived at Stephen Ministries, she wasn't quite sure what to expect--but she greatly enjoyed her experience here. "I wasn't sure if this internship was going to focus more on business or on ministry," she said. "It turned out to be a great mix of both."
Stephen Ministries internships are every bit as enjoyable as they are challenging and enlightening. "My internship has been educational, busy, and fun. It was more than I could have asked for! This is such an incredible ministry organization, and I feel blessed to have been a part of it," says Holly.
If you're looking for flexibility and breadth of experience, consider these words from Ashley: "My favorite part of my Stephen Ministries internship is the opportunity I get to perform a wide variety of tasks. I have had a great learning experience--I've learned more about myself as well as what I am looking for in a career."
Interns have the perfect opportunity to prepare to apply their talents in the business world. "What I didn't expect to get out of this internship is the confidence that I now have in my abilities as a writer, editor, interviewer, and leader in general. That confidence could only come from working with such a supportive, encouraging, uplifting staff," says Greg.
Interns at Stephen Ministries St. Louis learn more about serving God and applying their gifts in the business world while also learning more about themselves. "The variety of experiences I've had taught me to serve Christ in a new way and presented opportunities to grow in both my personal and professional life," says Leah.
Internships at Stephen Ministries St. Louis join classroom learning with real-world application. About being a Writing Plus! intern Mary said, "This experience would be helpful to anyone who wants writing and communication experience. It also gives you experience putting into practice what you’ve learned in business classes."
At Stephen Ministries St. Louis you will regularly interact with experienced mentors, receiving valuable insights and wisdom from true professionals. "I have really enjoyed receiving management training directly from the Director of Human Resources and being involved in a leadership roundtable discussion with the organization's Executive Director," says Betsy.
The internship experience at Stephen Ministries includes regular participation in management discussions, focus groups, and market research. Keenan said: "I felt as though I had a voice in the decisions that were being made about the present and future management of the organization."
Michelle worked with the conference planning team. She said, "I learned how to work with people and organize events. Stephen Ministries treated me like an employee, not just an intern. It was really nice to be counted on and given responsibility."
Along with meetings with an executive mentor, interns are also exposed to organizational leadership. Justin shared, "I appreciated being able to sit in on executive meetings. The heart of an organization is strategic planning and seeing how things fit in with your mission and your vision. As a college student, I don't know how many organizations will actually let you do that. You just can't beat that experience."
At Stephen Ministries St. Louis you can expect to do more than read about our culture; you will experience it! "It's heart-warming to work with a group of people that will pray for you if you're in need and celebrate with you when you've aged another year or seen another anniversary. Stephen Ministries values its employees, which is something I've seen from the day I walked in the door."
Working for a Christian organization with Christian people can have benefits that go beyond the experience and maturity that interns gain. As Sarah shares, "My faith has grown tremendously through this experience."
As a Leadership and Management intern, you will not only learn about leadership, you will see it modeled. Katie observed, "I didn't just get to talk to the staff, but I got to work alongside them. There was a lot of growth on my part from my daily interacting with these really excellent people at Stephen Ministries. This opportunity has allowed me to see good leadership in action. I'm going to be able to apply what I've learned to future leadership positions I may be in."
The valuable experience you receive with Stephen Ministries can also provide college credit. "Through my internship with Stephen Ministries I've earned two college credits in the field of management. This internship has given me the opportunity to receive business experience in a Christian environment, which combines two things that are very important to me," says Lauren.
As our first Writing-Plus! intern, Molly worked closely with writers and editors on staff. She said, "This is the most educationally rewarding summer I have ever had! I have had the opportunity to work with professional writers who not only taught me much about the writing process, but also modeled Christlike servanthood."
