Leadership and Management Internships at Stephen Ministries

A Stephen Ministries Leadership and Management Internship will help you combine Christian faith and values with the best practices of contemporary business management. You will be immersed in a unique blend of a Christian mission and sound business principles, a mixture that has helped Stephen Ministries thrive and grow over the last 30 years. Some of the concepts you will focus on include:

  • Servant leadership;
  • Identifying and communicating core values;
  • Documentation of key processes;
  • Discovering the comfort-stretch-failure zones of every employee;
  • Helping employees achieve a high degree of satisfaction in their work;
  • Why effective Christian ministry also requires sound business principles;
  • Why successful organizations remain entrepreneurial; and
  • How managing by values virtually eliminates the need for strict rules.

Leadership Training Ground

If you are considering a career that involves leading and managing people, this internship will give you a tremendous head start on your professional development. The mission of Stephen Ministries is leadership development--we equip pastors and church leaders to train and supervise others in their congregations. We use these practices within our own organization as well. As an intern, you will benefit immensely from this wealth of organizational knowledge and experience.

Hands-on Experience in Key Operational Areas

As a Leadership and Management Intern at Stephen Ministries, you will be involved in areas such as the following:

  • Organizational Management: Take part in management and supervisory staff meetings, learning what it takes to lead an organization of 45 people that supports the ministry of more than 10,000 congregations worldwide. You will learn and experience the principles and process of Empowering Supervision™, a unique method developed by Stephen Ministries.
  • Conference Operations: Participate in the planning of logistical operations for our one-week training courses--life-changing experiences for the hundreds of pastors and church leaders in attendance.
  • Writing Projects: Draft or edit correspondence to constituents. Assist in the development of internal training manuals, procedure manuals, and staff manuals. Edit and proofread new resources and brochures.
  • Human Resources: Work with our human resources staff to process applications, conduct applicant interviews, interview references, and provide input into the assessment, selection, and deployment process. Learn the concepts of hiring for character and capacity, training for skills, and deploying and redeploying staff based on their gifts.
  • Customer Service: Participate in training to learn about Stephen Ministries' high-quality products and services. Interact with our customers and assist our Customer Service Team in meeting customers' needs.

Other areas of experience will include:

  • Participating in high-quality staff training that empowers staff members both to work more productively and to think and act like "owners";
  • Participating in cross-functional work teams to see how they are managed to produce results;
  • Serving in a variety of roles to gain first-hand knowledge of specific departments and how they work together; and
  • Interacting with mentors who will pass on invaluable insights and wisdom from experience.
